NHL Plays: Tuesday

The new game in town is called DRAFT (Draft.com) and the DFS game is something most poolies have grown up on, drafting a team, allowing each participant to take a player with each pick. Unlike the other DFS games, if for instance you draft Connor McDavid in your pool, no one else can take him.

The draft is quick as you are allowed only 30 seconds per pick and you take five players, three forwards, a defenseman and a goalie.

You can use some strategy. Let’s say there are five participants in your pool and you are picking last. If the first four take goaltenders, then pick your goalie in the final round as you are going to get him anyway.

Remember, there are new pools available to play in but the players in my rankings will fall off the table as soon as the puck drops in their respective game.

Familiarize yourself with the rules and enjoy! It’s a great game!

Forward Rankings

-        Nikita Kucherov

-        Connor McDavid

-        Tyler Seguin

-        Steven Stamkos

-        Patrik Laine

-        Johnny Gaudreau

-        Nathan MacKinnon

-        Anze Kopitar

-        David Pastrnak

-        Jamie Benn

-        Eric Staal

-        Alexander Radulov

-        Blake Wheeler

-        Gabriel Landeskog

-        Filip Forsberg

-        Brayden Point

-        Mikael Granlund

-        Brendan Gallagher

-        Dustin Brown

I rated Laine and MacKinnon significantly lower than I typically would have tonight out of respect for their opposition, Nashville and Minnesota, respectfully.  You might want to consider taking Laine anyways though, given that he is one of the hottest players in the league right now with 16 goals and 22 points in his last 12 games.

Defenseman Rankings

-        Victor Hedman

-        Tyson Barrie

-        Drew Doughty

-        John Klingberg

-        Dougie Hamilton

-        Erik Karlsson

-        Mark Giordano

-        Dustin Byfuglien

-        PK Subban

-        Roman Josi

-        Oliver Ekman-Larsson

Hardest one of these for me to rank was Barrie.  As alluded to above, I’m a little reluctant to bet on the Avalanche to have a big offensive night against Minnesota, but Barrie is by far and away the hottest defenseman right now.  He has five goals and 15 points in his last 10 games.  That run goes back to Feb. 20 and Barrie leads all defensemen in scoring over that span, with the next best being Seth Jones’ 12 points in 11 games.

Goalie Rankings

-        Andrei Vasilevskiy

-        Jonathan Quick

-        Tuukka Rask

-        Pekka Rinne

-        Devan Dubnyk

I can’t say I’m in love with the goaltending options tonight.  I’d consider Vasilevskiy to be by far the best option though, with Quick and Rask being a solid second tier.  While I did penalize the Jets and Avalanche forwards and defensemen in the rankings above because they would likely be facing Rinne and Dubnyk, that doesn’t mean I’m in love with the flip side of that equation either – those two goaltenders facing some great offensive teams.  I’d consider them the next two best options, but certainly I’d much rather have one of the top three goalies on this ranking.  Also remember to check the list of probable goaltenders because there could be some changes between when this was written and when you’re picking.
