NHL Plays: Friday

Friday, February 9, 2018

NHL Plays will look at some players to consider adding while building your lineups. Remember to check back on this page later in the day for confirmations on starting goalies and keep an eye on Rotoworld’s daily blurbs for all your fantasy hockey needs.

Keep in mind that FanDuel allows you to roster nine players (2C, 4W, 2D, 1G) with a salary cap of $55,000, while DraftKings has a cap of $50,000 for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 1G, 1UT).

Columbus, Los Angeles, Carolina and Edmonton will play the first game of back-to-back situations, while Calgary, Vancouver, St. Louis, Dallas and the New York Islanders will skate for the second time in two nights.

Editor's Note: Rotoworld’s Season Pass is now available for the low price of $19.99. You get plenty of extra articles including the minor league report, the junior report and much, much more. Buy it now!

Sean Monahan (CGY) - C - $7,700 (FanDuel), $6,500 (DraftKings)

Monahan has found the back of the net in four straight contests. He has five goals and one assist during his four-game point streak. Calgary’s top line, which features Monahan, Johnny Gaudreau and Micheal Ferland, has great stack potential against the Rangers on Friday night.

Leon Draisaitl (EDM) - W - $7,400 (FanDuel), $6,500 (DraftKings)

Draisaitl has amassed 14 points (four goals, 10 assists) in the last 11 games. He has two goals and four helpers over a four-game point streak going into Friday night. Draisaitl has been rolling alongside Connor McDavid and they will be difficult for the Ducks to slow down even if John Gibson is available to return from injury.

Rickard Rakell (ANA) - W - $6,900 (FanDuel), $6,800 (DraftKings)

Rakell has been on a scoring tear while skating alongside Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry. He has recorded seven goals and seven helpers in the past 12 contests. His hot streak includes a five-game point streak going into Friday’s match against the Oilers. Rakell has four markers and five assists during that span.

Dylan Larkin (DET) - C - $6,200 (FanDuel), $6,000 (DraftKings)

Detroit scored six goals on the Islanders back on Dec. 19 and New York’s struggles defensively this year make the Red Wings an intriguing option. Larkin posted three assists that night and he ended a five-game pointless skid this past Tuesday. He has one goal and six points in seven career matches against the Islanders.

Mathieu Perreault (WPG) - W - $4,400 (FanDuel), $5,100 (DraftKings)

Perreault has accounted for five goals and six assists for 11 points in 12 games. He is projected to keep a spot in Winnipeg’s top-six forward group when Mark Scheifele returns to the lineup on Friday night. Perreault will also see some power-play time and could be a great under-the-radar target.

Connor Hellebuyck (WPG) - G - $8,400 (FanDuel), $7,800 (DraftKings)

Hellebuyck blanked the Blues on Dec. 17 with 24 stops and he has been excellent at home this season. He has posted a 19-1-2 record with a 2.05 goals-against average, a .931 save percentage and four shutouts at Bell MTS Place. Hellebuyck wasn’t at his best in a 4-3 win over Arizona on Tuesday, but he should bounce back against a St. Louis team that played the night before.

John Carlson (WSH) - D - $6,000 (FanDuel), $6,300 (DraftKings)

Carlson does not come cheap for Friday night’s slate, but he brings a great deal of value to the table. He has one goal and two assists in two tilts against Columbus this year. The Blue Jackets own the 27th-ranked penalty kill in the league and the Capitals defenseman sits second on the team with 19 power-play points. Carlson has also been a good source of blocks in 2017-18 with 91 in 53 games.

Alexander Edler (VAN) - D - $5,000 (FanDuel), $5,400 (DraftKings)

Edler has heated up considerably after he got off to a sluggish start this season. He has piled up 11 points in his last 13 games, which includes a two-assist performance on Thursday night. Edler has also racked up shots (105) and blocks (116) in 42 games this year, which enhances his fantasy point potential.

Probable Goaltenders:

Detroit (Petr Mrazek) Confirmed @ NY Islanders (Thomas Greiss)

Calgary (Mike Smith) @ NY Rangers (Henrik Lundqvist)

Columbus (Sergei Bobrovsky) @ Washington (Braden Holtby)

Los Angeles (Jonathan Quick) @ Florida (Harri Sateri) Confirmed

Vancouver (Jacob Markstrom) @ Carolina (Scott Darling) Confirmed

St. Louis (Jake Allen) @ Winnipeg (Connor Hellebuyck)

Pittsburgh (Matt Murray) @ Dallas (Kari Lehtonen) Confirmed

Edmonton (Cam Talbot) @ Anaheim (Ryan Miller)
