Week 19 Games Played (upcoming week)

3 Games: CHA, CLE, PHI, WAS

2 Games: BOS, CHI, DAL, DEN, DET, GSW, HOU, LAC, LAL, MEM, MIA, MIL, MIN, NOP, NYK, OKC, ORL, PHX, POR, SAC, SAS, UTA

1 Game: ATL, BKN, IND, TOR

Team World stomped Team USA in a 155-124 victory; Bogdan Bogdanovic was pretty impressive in that one, and he looks all set up for a strong post-break run. He’s currently owned in just 38% of Yahoo! Leagues despite being a top-100 player over the past month. If he’s available in your league, change that.

Spencer Dinwiddie came home with the Taco Bell Skills Challenge award and was fairly salty about the official NBA’s Twitter account not @ing him in their congratulatory tweet.

Devin Booker set a record at the JBL 3-point contest, hitting 28 triples in the second-round to edge out Klay Thompson. Paul George was thoroughly unimpressive in that one.

Donovan Mitchell put his hops display during the Verizon Slam Dunk competition, taking home the award with an ode to Vince Carter, although, in my opinion, Dennis Smith Jr. threw down the best dunk.

Despite there being a fair share of wide-open triples, open layups, and some silly alley-oops early on, there was a reasonable amount of defense played for the All-Star game, which I would credit to the new format and the $350,000 incentive that went to the charity of choice of the winning team (in this case, After-School All-Stars Los Angeles). LeBron James clearly wanted to win with some pride on the line picking his own squad, and he finished with 29 points, 10 boards, eight dimes, four trey-bombs, one steal and five turnovers over 31 minutes on his way to his third All-Star MVP award.

Here are the full highlights.

Relevant News

Joel Embiid missed the final game going into the All-Star break with an ankle issue, but he played in Rising Stars Challenge (six points, two boards and one triple over nine minutes) and the All-Star game (19 points, eight boards, two treys and two swats across 20 minutes) and his ankle looked just fine, so he should be ready to roll for the 76ers in Chicago on Thursday.

Stan Van Gundy said he’s unsure exactly when Reggie Jackson (ankle) will be able to make it back to the court. It sounds like his absence could extend beyond the initial 6-8 window, so he belongs on the waiver wire in all leagues. Ish Smith will continue to start in his absence with Jameer Nelson serving as his primary backup.

Jeff Hornacek recently implied that he’ll tweak his starting five after the break, and the most obvious candidate to head back to the bench would be Jarrett Jack. Either Emmanuel Mudiay or Frank Ntilikina would replace him, but this has the potential to devolve into a three-way timeshare, which would essentially guarantee no one has much value.

Channing Frye underwent an appendectomy and he’s targeting a return to the court in early March.

Vince Carter is not expected to reach a buyout agreement with the Kings, as they like him serving as a veteran presence on their young roster.
