Schedule Notes

-With just two games on the schedule for the Cavaliers and Pistons, the only players I would start in weekly leagues are LeBron James, Kevin Love, Andre Drummond and Tobias Harris

-Joel Embiid played a career-high 49 minutes in Friday’s triple overtime loss, so even though the 76ers are off this weekend, it’s pretty much a lock that he will miss one game of Philly’s back-to-back set on Monday vs. the Bulls and Tuesday vs. the Kings. He also has a bad back, so I'm curious to see how it responds this weekend.

-Kawhi Leonard will likely only play in three out of four games this week and should rest on either Wednesday or Thursday in their back-to-back set. The same goes for Tony Parker

-The Nets, Grizzlies, Magic, Raptors and Wizards all have 3-game weeks that don’t begin until Wednesday.

- The Lakers are coming off back-to-back weeks with just two games, so check to make sure no one like a Kyle Kuzma is sitting on the waiver wire.

Weekly Streaming Options (with 4 games)

*These are players who are widely available in most leagues

Ersan Ilyasova (42% Owned)- Even with John Collins back in the lineup, Ilyasova is still going to play a big role and saw an average of 29.0 minutes in his last two games with Collins active. The rookie is playing mostly center since the Hawks are missing Dewayne Dedmon (leg), so Ilyasova will continue to see minutes in the high 20s and sometimes the low 30s. He’s a hit-or-miss fantasy option, but he’s been pretty hot lately with 20+ points in three out of his last five games and he has a total of 14 triples in that span.

Aron Baynes (4% Owned)- With Marcus Morris targeting a return around Christmas due to lingering knee concerns and Daniel Theis dealing with a broken nose, Baynes could be a low-end streaming option in deeper leagues for owners in desperate need of a big. Even if you include his 2-point dud on Friday, Baynes has respectable averages of 7.8 points and 5.4 rebounds over his last five games. With a four game week, you could be looking at around 25 rebounds.

Jeremy Lamb (50% Owned)- Lamb’s ownership has been trending down for weeks because his minutes and production are down, but he still has 8th round value on the season in just 27.0 minutes per game. I’m genuinely concerned about Nicolas Batum’s elbow and I think he will be a shut-down candidate down the stretch with Charlotte struggling. That makes Lamb more of a stash, but he’s definitely on my rosters and he should have some value in a four-game week.

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (41% Owned)- The minutes have been there for a while, but MKG’s production has really picked up lately. He’s scored 13 or more points in four out of his last five games, averaging 14.4 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.2 steals on 66.0 percent shooting from the field. He gets about 30 minutes per night, so he’s definitely worth starting in a four-game week.

Bobby Portis (28% Owned)- If Lauri Markkanen (back) continues to miss time, Portis is still widely available unlike the red-hot Nikola Mirotic (66% Owned). He’s coming off a dominant 27-point game with 12 rebounds vs. the Bucks on Friday and he’s been able to coexist with Mirotic because he’s getting the backup center minutes behind Robin Lopez at the expense of Cristiano Felicio. Portis also had a 23-point game against Boston last week.

David Nwaba (14% Owned)- I’ve been snatching Nwaba off the wire in most of my leagues and I’ve been really pleased with the dividends so far. He’s one of coach Fred Hoiberg’s favorite players and has seen a spike in minutes lately. “[Nwaba’s] skill is he goes out and plays harder than everybody else on the floor,” Hoiberg said recently. The second-year wing started the second half of Friday’s game at the expense of the struggling Denzel Valentine and racked up 13 points, eight rebounds and three steals across 35 minutes. He’s played an average of over 30 minutes in his last five games and is averaging 11.0 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.0 blocks, 1.0 steals and just 0.4 turnovers in that span.

J.J. Barea (33% Owned) and Yogi Ferrell (12% Owned)- Dennis Smith Jr. has missed the past four games with a hip injury, so I encourage you to give Barea and Ferrell a long look if the stud rookie continues to miss time. In that span, Barea has averaged 13.5 points, 5.5 assists, 3.3 boards and 1.5 triples while Ferrell has posted 11.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 triples.

Trey Lyles (11% Owned)- I was skeptical that Lyles would stay relevant with Nikola Jokic (ankle) back, but he’s too hot to ignore right now and had 19 points with seven rebounds, three assists, three steals and four 3-pointers in 30 minutes in Jokic’s return on Friday. In his last four games, Lyles is averaging 18.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.3 steals and 3.3 triples. He’s a much better fit next to Jokic for his ability to stretch the floor, so he could continue to play big minutes at the expense of guys like Kenneth Faried. In fact, he’s played about 24 minutes per game since Paul Millsap (wrist) went down 13 games ago.

Jordan Bell (9% Owned)- Bell gave us a taste of his upside this week with Draymond Green nursing a shoulder injury, averaging 9.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 0.5 blocks and 1.5 steals in 25.0 minutes in his last two games. I’m not expecting him to play more than 20 minutes per game this week assuming Green is ready to roll, but his role is growing and he has enough per-minute upside to be considered in weekly leagues. I still think he could end up starting at the five this season and that’s why I’m stashing him in my leagues.

Milos Teodosic (42% Owned)- Returning from a 22-game absence, Teodosic was a little rusty from the field and hit just 6-of-21 shots in his first two games back, averaging 10.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 triples. He’s still being eased back into the rotation and the Clippers have a back-to-back set this week, so while I’m only expecting him to play in three games, I still think he’s worth starting. He’ll run away with the starting PG job once he has his legs under him and will flirt with double-digit assists on a nightly basis.

Kelly Olynyk (45% Owned)- Not only is Olynyk benefitting from Hassan Whiteside’s (knee) absence, but Olynyk has also spent some time at power forward lately with Justise Winslow (knee) banged up. He has December averages of 9.4 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.9 triples.

Josh Richardson (42% Owned)- I have no idea why he’s still available in so many leagues and I consider him a must-start player this week. He’s averaging 14.4 points, 3.2 boards, 1.6 assists, 1.1 steals, 0.7 blocks and 2.2 treys on 53.8 percent from the field over his last nine games with 5th round value in that span.

Jonas Jerebko (4% Owned)- Rudy Gobert (knee) is expected to miss about a month of action, and Jerebko averaged 8.7 points, 4.5 boards and 1.5 triples per game in 20.9 minutes a night the last time Gobert was out of commission. He's also coming off a strong game on Friday, racking up 17 points, two treys, seven boards, two steals and one block in 24 minutes.

Buy-Low Player of the Week

John Wall looked super rusty upon his return, shooting a combined 11-of-31 from the field and 4-of-11 from the line in his last two games. He was out for roughly 2.5 weeks, so some rust was expected. He shoots nearly 80 percent from the line for his career and shot a career-high 45.1 percent from the field last season, so I'm confident that he will turn things around. The big takeaway for me from those two games is that Wall looked explosive as ever, and it's a really good sign that the Wizards were confident enough about his knee to play him 29.0 minutes in those two games. He should see minutes in the 30s by the end of this weekend and will start churning out top-15 value soon.

Sell-High Player of the Week

Nikola Vucevic has been eating with the Magic banged up, and now Aaron Gordon (calf) is injured again and joins Evan Fournier (ankle), Jonathan Isaac (ankle) and Terrence Ross (knee) on the shelf. Vucevic has been the third best player in standard 9-category leagues over his last seven games, averaging 22.6 points, 13.4 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.6 steals, 2.1 blocks and 1.4 triples. There's no way he can keep up this pace and Gordon's absence may only be for a game or two, and it's hard to imagine Vucevic's value being any higher than it is now.
