MLB DFS Plays: Wednesday

Wednesday, September 5, 2018

This article aims to find the best overall MLB DFS Plays and Bargains to help you construct a cash-worthy lineup. The following write-ups were constructed earlier in the day, meaning injury information, weather, and lineup cards could alter the fantasy landscape. Checking starting lineups and scanning our MLB Headlines Feed should keep you in the loop.

Keep in mind that we are looking towards the evening slate starting at 7:05 ET.

PITCHER

Hyun-Jin Ryu – LA Dodgers (vs NY Mets)

The Mets are bad against left-handed pitching. That might actually be an understatement, as NYM ranks dead last in wOBA vs southpaws with a 24.8% strikeout rate (2nd highest in MLB). Dodgers’ lefty Hyun-Jin Ryu has the ability to take full advantage of those horrendous numbers, as he sports a clean 2.24 ERA on the season. The LAD southpaw has been efficient in recent starts, and I feel very confident in his floor/ceiling/price/matchup combination this evening.

Also Consider: Jameson Taillon, Michael Kopech

Editor’s Note: Compete in a live fantasy baseball snake draft right now! Drafts take as little as 2 minutes to complete and last just one night. For a limited time, DRAFT is giving Rotoworld readers a FREE entry into a real money draft and a Money-Back Guarantee up to $100! Here's the link.

CATCHER / FIRST BASE

Ian Desmond – Colorado (vs San Francisco)

Desmond is only $3400 on FanDuel despite looking at a fantastic matchup in Coors Field. He’s swinging a confident bat with five hits over his past four games as well. That momentum should carry into this draw vs San Francisco LHP Andrew Suarez and his vulnerable .352 wOBA 19.1% HR/FB split vs right-handed bats. Desmond is a platoon specialist who feasts on lefties, so this is a fantastic situation to call on him for DFS purposes.

Also Consider: Brandon Belt, J.T. Realmuto

SECOND BASE

DJ LeMahieu – Colorado (vs San Francisco)

Following in Desmond’s footsteps, LeMahieu is another moderately priced ($3500 on FanDuel) Colorado hitter looking to take advantage of the righty/lefty matchup vs Andrew Suarez. LeMahieu has been flexing some surprising power lately with three homers over his past eight starts, which serves as some added upside on top of the ever-present multi-hit potential.

Also Consider: Joe Panik, Joey Wendle

THIRD BASE

Adrian Beltre – Texas (vs LA Angels)

Texas makes for another quality stacking option while playing in their hitter-friendly ballpark. The draw vs Jaime Barria looks good, especially considering his exploitable .375 wOBA against right-handed bats. Veteran Adrian Beltre should be able to pounce all over that. He has been swinging a hot bat with five hits and two homers over his past four games, and this is an excellent situation to keep him going.

Also Consider: Nolan Arenado, Evan Longoria

SHORTSTOP

Elvis Andrus – Texas (vs LA Angels)

Andrus is another Texas hitter who stands to benefit from the draw vs Jaime Barria (and his .375 wOBA vs RHB) in hitter-friendly Globe Life Park. Similar to his teammate, Beltre, the Rangers’ shortstop has been heating up with seven hits and two homers over his most recent five games. Andrus and Beltre make for a nice stacking duo through all formats tonight.

Also Consider: Trevor Story, Asdrubal Cabrera

OUTFIELD

Starling Marte – Pittsburgh (vs Cincinnati)

Even though they are playing in the pitcher-friendly environment of PNC Park, don’t forget about the Pirates tonight. They are looking at a quality matchup vs Homer Bailey and his .381 wOBA vs RHB with a .373 wOBA vs lefties. Starling Marte is an excellent candidate to take advantage while holding ideal power/speed upside. He’ll find quality opportunities against a non-imposing Cincinnati bullpen in the later innings as well.

Gorkys Hernandez – San Francisco (at Colorado)

Apparently Hernandez rekindled his homerun swing just in time for a trip to Coors Field. The San Francisco outfielder has homered in both games of this series so far, and tonight’s draw vs Antonio Senzatela looks like a prime spot for more. Hernandez is only $3100 on FanDuel, making him an easy addition to any lineup.

Also Consider: Gregory Polanco, Lorenzo Cain, Nomar Mazara, Kole Calhoun
