MLB GPP Plays: Monday

Monday, September 3, 2018

This article looks to uncover some underrated MLB DFS Tournament Options for large-field contests. The following write-ups were constructed earlier in the day, meaning injury information, weather, and lineup cards could alter the fantasy landscape. Checking starting lineups and scanning our MLB Headlines Feed should keep you in the loop.

Keep in mind that we are looking towards the evening slate starting at 7:07 ET.

Hunter Renfroe – OF – San Diego (at Arizona)

Renfroe is on fire at the moment while collecting 13 hits, four homers, six runs, and 10 RBI over his past seven games. A park upgrade in Arizona could help him add to that heater, especially while stepping in against Zack Godley – a divisional pitcher he has had success against. Renfroe is only $3200 on FanDuel despite tearing the cover off the baseball lately, and he could be a savvy addition to any high-upside tournament lineup.

Cedric Mullins – OF – Baltimore (at Seattle)

The Baltimore rookie has a nice skill set with power and speed upside. He’s a switch-hitter who should be able to take advantage of the generous .367 wOBA 22.2% HR/FB split held by Seattle RHP Erasmo Ramirez. Baltimore checks in with one of the lower run-scoring projections of this evening slate, and most people will likely avoid the O’s for that reason. However, this is a nice matchup for the likes of Mullins and Villar. I’m placing those two into heavy tournament consideration.

Daniel Descalso – 2B – Arizona (vs San Diego)

Arizona will likely represent the most popular offense of this evening slate, and Descalso is a sneaky-good pick within that. We’ll need to double-check that he’s actually playing, but he’ll step into a comfortable draw vs San Diego RHP Brian Mitchell and his .360 wOBA vs left-handed bats if that’s the case. Mitchell owns a cringe-worthy 7.08 ERA on the season, and Descalso – who is coming off a homer yesterday – could inflate that even further.

Ryon Healy – 1B – Seattle (vs Baltimore)

Ryon Healy has been one of our favorite MLB GPP recommendations throughout the season. He carries promising power upside with a cheap price point, and the ownership rate always tends to be lagging. Healy had a rough start to August, but it appears he’s warming up yet again with seven hits, one homer, three runs, and five RBI over his most recent four starts. He has a juicy righty/lefty matchup against Baltimore LHP Josh Rogers, which instantly vaults him into fantasy consideration at first base or the utility spot. The $2600 salary on FanDuel makes things look even better.
