2018 Fantasy Race to Dubai

Dave Tindall is our main man in Europe. In addition to his weekly previews of European Tour events on Mondays, he’ll share his selections and analysis for the Fantasy Race to Dubai at EuropeanTour.com.

Format: Pick 6 golfers. Players accumulate points based on Race to Dubai (R2D) points earned. Captain’s points are doubled. Unlimited team changes can be made each week.

Team Tindall (Team name: YESSIR!)

Last week: Rose as skipper and play-off rival HaoTong Li on the team too. Seemed obvious but a rise of over 1,000 spots. The climb continues.

Sergio Garcia
(captain)
: Twice a course winner, second on most recent appearance at Gary Player CC and full of beans after Ryder Cup and dominant Valderrama victory.

HaoTong Li: Gets the nod on current form after following up a run of 5-9-11 with last week’s play-off loss in Turkey. When adding in last year’s top four here, he’s challenging Sergio for the captain’s armband.

Rory McIlroy
: If he was called Cory McEvoy, we’d be raving about form of four top sevens in seven starts. Therefore, judge him on that rather than vintage 2014 Rory and he’s an obvious pick.

Lucas Bjerregaard
: A win and five other top tens in his last eight starts means the Dane is a no-brainer despite middling course form.

Branden Grace
: A stud on home soil and last year’s win here followed third and fourth. Needs to raise his game after a lull but this is the place to do it.

Louis Oosthuizen
: Top five at the CIMB Classic two starts ago. Hasn’t found his very best here but it’s relative as he’s made the top ten both times since it moved to a 70+ field.

Matt Cooper is part of our European team. He contributes to player news, and he’ll share his selections and analysis for the Fantasy Race to Dubai at EuropeanTour.com. He was the winner of the Ladies European Tour’s Fantasy League in 2011.

Last week: Had Rose as my captain, but eventually disappointed that HaoTong Li didn't complete the job because I suspect I'd have made a greater move with a Chinese win, but back in the top 500.

Position: 494th

Sergio Garcia (Captain): A two-time course winner (in 2001 and 2003), second on his last trip there five years ago and a winner at home last time out. I suspect the biggest decision this week is whether to give Sergio, Rory or a leftfield pick the armband. I'm going with the safer two options and Sergio gets the nod, but it's ultimately on a hunch.

Rory McIlroy: Played here in 2009 (WD after 73-76) and was T54 (72-77-75-74) last time out. If he wasn't Rory McIlroy you'd steer a wide berth, but he is Rory McIlroy.

HaoTong Li: Last week's 72nd and 73rd hole three-putts would hurt a lot of golfers, and they might well take Li a while to fully get over. But he's also the type to bounce right back. T20 and T4 on his two course appearances.

Branden Grace: Not made a top 40 since August or a top 20 since May, but he loves the course and the event. In fact he's finished 4-3-1 in the last three years.

Louis Oosthuizen: Not finished worse than T14 in his last nine visits, including one win in 2007. Promising T5 in the CILMB Classic ahead of T29 in the CJ Cup.

Martin Kaymer: Winner here in 2012, T5 last year and was very chipper about the state of his game (and his hunger to return here) last week in Turkey after another T5.
