2018 Fantasy Race to Dubai

Dave Tindall is our main man in Europe. In addition to his weekly previews of European Tour events on Mondays, he’ll share his selections and analysis for the Fantasy Race to Dubai at EuropeanTour.com.

Format: Pick 6 golfers. Players accumulate points based on Race to Dubai (R2D) points earned. Captain’s points are doubled. Unlimited team changes can be made each week.

Team Tindall (Team name: YESSIR!)

Last week: A rise of 400 spots continued the climb toward semi-respectability (hmm, not even semi to be honest) but felt I missed a great contrary play with Schauffele. Annoying, as I normally try and squeeze the Americans in as many don't realise they're even in the game.

Pos: 5,584

Justin Rose (captain): Last year's winner made a fine job of defending at the WGC-HSBC Champions and I can't see how it will be any different here. Superb record in Turkey.

Tommy Fleetwood: Has bad rounds but not bad weeks. The former has limited his wins but current finishing positions of 7-9-2-11-8 show how strong he is over 72 holes.

Thorbjorn Olesen: Course horse owns a win and a top five here the last two years. T7 in last week's WGC in China suggests he'll be near the top of the leaderboard again.

HaoTong Li: Lots of pressure on him to please his local fans in China last week but he did well, taking T11. Finishing the season fast and was runner-up here two years ago.

Kiradech Aphibarnrat: Streaky player and we could be entering another hot run after his impressive top four at the WGC-HSBC Champions. T6 and T3 in this event.

Shane Lowry: I toyed with an outsider but can't really leave the Irishman out given his second place at Valderrama and top eight at this track 12 months ago.

Matt Cooper is part of our European team. He contributes to player news, and he’ll share his selections and analysis for the Fantasy Race to Dubai at EuropeanTour.com. He was the winner of the Ladies European Tour’s Fantasy League in 2011.

Last week: A climb of 19 spots as just about everyone in the game had Justin Rose wearing the armband last week in Shanghai. My preview highlighted that no-one should overlook Xander Schauffele as an option, unfortunately it went no further ...

Position:
680th

Justin Rose (Captain):
Winner last year and remains in fine form. See no reason to take him off the team and it makes perfect sense to get double points for whatever he achieves. This course and field looks a good option for another win.

Tommy Fleetwood: Far from convinced by his course form, but he's confounded that in the past and he has the motivation and form to overcome it again.

Thorbjorn Olesen: Improved every day last week; is a favorite course the perfect location to finally ride the Ryder Cup wave?

Shane Lowry: Loves a tree-lined course (see Wentworth, Woburn) and proved he likes this one when T8 a year ago.

HaoTong Li: If he can just poke it round in level-par on Thursday, he should have a chance. It's been his weakness in recent weeks and yet he's still notched good finishes.

Matthew Southgate: A late spot doing the preview - he's broken 70 here in each of his last six laps. Part of me is screaming "regression to mean", the other half is hollering "I need an outsider to finish top three and be on him". It was Southgate or Tapio Pulkkanen.
