Expert Picks: Sanderson Farms

Wednesday, October 24, 2018

Welcome to Playing the Tips!

Each week this will be the one-stop resource to soak in all the picks from our fantasy staffers at Rotoworld.com.

In this pop-up edition of the Expert Picks, I will fly solo as I give you some suggestions for the alternate-field event taking place in Mississippi.

It's the Sanderson Farms Championship at the Country Club of Jackson.

Editor’s Note: With over 15,000 reviews, DRAFT is the highest rated fantasy sports app. For a limited time, DRAFT is giving Rotoworld readers a FREE entry into a real money draft and a Money-Back Guarantee up to $100! Here's the link.

One-and-Done

Each week I will think out loud about my process in determining my One-and-Done selection. If you are new to the One-and-Done format, it is like an NFL survivor league. You pick one golfer per week, but you can't use them again all year.

Let's start our search this week with who has played well at the Country Club of Jackson:

Ryan Armour (MC-MC-WIN)
Nicholas Lindheim (T23-T7)
Chris Kirk (T2-T34)
Vaughn Taylor (T20-T20-T10)
Brandon Hagy (T14-T18)
Kevin Streelman (MC-T18-T10)
Cody Gribble (WIN-MC)
Brian Stuard (T39-T4)
Lucas Glover (T22-T39-T5)
Nick Taylor (WIN-T20-T23)
Ricky Barnes (T33-T10)
Jonathan Randolph (T73-MC-T65-THIRD)
Aaron Baddeley (T4-T30)
Seamus Power (T29-T18)
Derek Fathauer (T51-T50-T10)

After history, we can look at baseline performance over the last few years. More recent results are weighted more heavily:

Bill Haas
Lucas Glover
Martin Laird
Chris Kirk
Kevin Streelman
Harris English
Brandon Harkins
David Lingmerth
Jhonattan Vegas
Seamus Power
Harold Varner III
Vaughn Taylor
Nate Lashley
Sean O'Hair
Aaron Baddeley

Golfers that check the box in history and long-term skill include: Lucas Glover, Chris Kirk, Kevin Streelman, Seamus Power, Vaughn Taylor, and Aaron Baddeley.

Glover finished 5th here in 2016. Kirk finished 2nd in 2016. Streelman bagged a top 10 last year. Power has a pair of top 30s here. Vaughn Taylor has three top 20s. Baddeley managed a 4th in 2015.

This is a really tough choice because there are also big names like Dylan Frittelli, Sungjae Im, Harold Varner III, etc. that look appealing.

With a T4 in his most recent start, the Safeway Open, Aaron Baddeley caught my eye.

Instead, I'm going to go with the Clemson product, Lucas Glover, as this event is played down in the South. Glover loves heading back to bermuda territory. Glover opened his season with a T17 at the Safeway Open. Here at the SFC, he has twice been T3 thru 54 holes (in three appearances). I like his chances to put himself back into contention this week.

Daily Fantasy Sports [DFS]

I will be giving out selections for one team for each DFS site, per week.

These lineups will be entered into a large-entry Guaranteed Prize Pool. That means we need to take a risk or two, in order to separate ourselves from the field.

The idea is to provide you a list of names to consider. I would not recommend copying these teams, golfer for golfer. Duplicate teams are no fun and don't help anyone.

DraftKings Picks:

Lucas Glover ($10,000): Talked about it in the One-and-Done section; Glover has twice put himself in contention here at CC of Jackson.

Dylan Frittelli ($9,300): You may recall he snagged the #1 spot in my Web Rankings this year. Has two Euro Tour wins over the last two years.

Ryan Blaum ($7,300): The Duke Blue Devil recently shared his before-and-after photos of him cutting 15 pounds over the summer. That's great that he's taking care of his body but what really draws me to him is the return to bermuda land. Blaum is a Duke product so it makes sense that he thrives down here in the South. He ranks top 20 in this field when it comes to overall performance on bermuda tracks.

Chris Kirk ($9,000): This is the time of the year when Kirk starts to collect his FedExCup Points in bunches. Back on bermuda, this is an easy pick.

Norman Xiong ($6,600): Also known as The Panda. I can't quit him. He is 0-for-6 to kick off his pro career and was 0-for-1 before that. In a weak field like this, I will take the chance that he finally breaks out.

Doug Ghim ($7,700): The former No.1 in the WAGR got off to a rocky start to his pro career but he arrives with top 25s in three of his last five worldwide starts. That includes a T8 at the Omega Euro Masters and a T20 at the Wyndham (bermuda greens and also played in the South).
